This course, aimed at Secondary School Governors, provides an introduction to the school curriculum and the Governing Board’s responsibilities.
• To develop an understanding of the forces which shape the secondary curriculum both within and beyond the individual school
• To understand the ways in which the secondary curriculum is implemented and delivered by schools
• To build an awareness of the responsibilities of governors with respect to the curriculum
• To consider ways in which the secondary curriculum within a school may be evaluated and reviewed.
The 2019 inspection framework places great emphasis upon the curriculum in evaluating 'The Quality of Education' in a school. In turn, this judgement is a highly significant determinant of the judgement for 'Overall Effectiveness'. Schools have been adjusting to this significant shift of emphasis. Governors have a key role to play in strategic leadership and holding leaders to account for the quality of education.
