Course Objectives

This full day course will aim to;
• examine the grammar requirements in Year 5 and Year 6;
• explore a model to teach sentence construction which can be implemented within a teaching sequence for English;
• equip participants with a range of practical and engaging strategies to address word level grammar and punctuation;
• consider the ‘bigger picture’ whereby grammar helps the learner to improve their writing.

This course will explore a range of ideas and strategies to support the teaching and learning of grammar skills in Year 5 and Year 6. Through an exploration of practical approaches, it aims to increase teachers’ confidence in teaching the grammar aspects within the curriculum, and in preparing children for the KS2 Grammar and Punctuation test
